Pharmacy Clean Room Services
Introduction
The Pharmacy Clean Room Services Framework, managed by NHS North of England, is a crucial initiative designed to support licensed and unlicensed aseptic and radio pharmacy facilities within member trusts. This framework, which is not a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS), is set to run until 11 April 2025. It is aimed at facilitating the maintenance of clean and sterile environments within pharmacy settings, ensuring compliance with the highest aseptic standards. Developed in collaboration with experts from the NHS Pharmaceutical Purchasing Consortium, this framework provides comprehensive solutions and resources essential for maintaining optimal cleanliness and sterility in pharmacy clean rooms and aseptic areas.
Context & Use Case
Clean room services are vital for pharmacies, particularly those involved in aseptic dispensing and manufacturing processes. Contracting authorities, such as NHS trusts, use this framework to access a range of services and products that enable them to uphold stringent cleanliness and sterility standards required in pharmacy operations. This framework is particularly relevant for facilities where aseptic manipulation of sterile medicines occurs, as it ensures that these environments remain uncontaminated and compliant with regulatory standards. The framework's development involved pharmacy technicians, quality assurance managers, production managers, and procurement specialists, ensuring a well-rounded approach to addressing the needs of pharmacy clean rooms.
Scope of Services
The Pharmacy Clean Room Services Framework is divided into three distinct lots, each catering to specific needs within the pharmacy clean room environment: 1. Lot 1 - Pharmacy Clean Room Garments: This lot covers the rental, purchase, and laundering services of clean room garments. These garments are essential for supporting both licensed and unlicensed aseptic and radio pharmacy facilities, ensuring that personnel can operate in a sterile environment. 2. Lot 2 - Provision of Mops Including Processing: This service provides a comprehensive sterile mop provision, inclusive of a complete cleaning and refreshing service. These mops are crucial for maintaining the cleanliness of the pharmacy environment, helping to prevent contamination. 3. Lot 3 - Pharmacy Specific Clean Room Consumables: This lot involves the supply of various products used in pharmacy clean rooms, including those used for cleaning and decontaminating aseptic processing areas. The consumables are tailored for use in aseptic manipulation of sterile medicines, ensuring that all processes meet required standards.
Who Can Apply
The framework is open to suppliers who specialise in providing services and products related to pharmacy clean rooms. Suitable applicants may include companies that offer garment rental and laundering services, providers of sterile cleaning equipment, and suppliers of pharmacy-specific consumables. While this framework is not a DPS, meaning it does not allow for open applications throughout its duration, it offers a structured approach for suppliers who meet the initial requirements to contribute to the framework’s objectives.
Buyer Benefits
Public sector buyers, particularly NHS trusts, benefit from using this framework as it provides a streamlined and compliant procurement route for essential clean room services and products. The framework facilitates a faster route to market, allowing buyers to quickly access the necessary services and supplies. Additionally, by leveraging the collective expertise embedded in the framework, buyers can ensure they are securing the most effective solutions for maintaining sterile environments, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
