    Introduction

The Intelligent Automation Framework, managed by NHS Shared Business Services, is a strategic procurement tool designed to assist healthcare organisations across the UK, particularly within the NHS, in improving operational efficiency and enhancing patient care. This framework, which is not a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS), is in effect until 19 November 2025. It offers a structured and compliant route to procure intelligent automation solutions, thereby enabling healthcare providers to streamline their processes and focus more on delivering quality patient care.

    Context & Use Case

In the face of mounting challenges such as workforce pressures, budget constraints, and the imperative to reduce waiting times for elective procedures, healthcare organisations are increasingly turning to technology to enhance their capabilities. The Intelligent Automation Framework facilitates this by allowing organisations to automate routine administrative and clinical tasks. By leveraging Intelligent Automation, healthcare staff can significantly reduce the time spent on repetitive activities such as data entry and information transfer, thereby dedicating more time to direct patient care. This framework aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan's objective to harness technology for improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency. It forms part of the broader digital transformation initiatives within the NHS, aimed at meeting the digital transformation targets set by NHS England.

    Scope of Services

The framework is divided into three distinct lots, each catering to different aspects of intelligent automation: 1. Lot 1: Intelligent Automation Services - This lot enables organisations to procure comprehensive intelligent automation services, from consultancy and implementation to ongoing support. It is ideal for organisations seeking to establish an in-house intelligent automation service with the objective of eventually managing it independently. 2. Lot 2: Intelligent Automation Software & Licensing - Designed for organisations with existing or developing in-house intelligent automation capabilities, this lot provides a compliant route to procure off-the-shelf software, solutions, and licenses directly from vendors. 3. Lot 3: Intelligent Automation as a Service (IAaaS) - This lot offers a fully outsourced solution, providing organisations with an outcome-based, managed service. It is tailored for those who prefer to outsource the day-to-day operation of intelligent automation to a third-party service provider, based on a fixed price-per-process model.

    Who Can Apply

The framework is suitable for a wide range of suppliers, including those offering consulting, implementation, and support services in intelligent automation. Additionally, software vendors providing intelligent automation tools and solutions can also apply. As this is not a DPS, the application process is closed and suppliers must adhere to the specific requirements outlined by NHS Shared Business Services to participate.

    Buyer Benefits

For public sector buyers, the Intelligent Automation Framework offers several advantages. It provides a compliant procurement route, ensuring that all transactions adhere to public sector regulations. The framework also facilitates faster access to market, enabling healthcare organisations to swiftly implement automation solutions and achieve efficiencies. Furthermore, the competitive nature of the framework ensures cost-effectiveness and quality, as suppliers are required to meet stringent standards.

    Lots

Lot 1: Intelligent Automation Services Allows organisations to procure intelligent automation services from consultancy and implementation to ongoing support. It is designed for organisations who require the expertise and specialist support from service providers to set up and implement an in-house intelligent automation service for their organisation, with the end goal being to transfer the day-to-day running of intelligent automation back to the organisation. Lot 2: Intelligent Automation Software & Licensing Allows organisations to procure off-the-shelf intelligent automation software and licensing direct from software vendor suppliers. This lot is designed for organisations who are building or already have an established in-house intelligent automation function but require a compliant contractual route to purchase further software, solutions, and licenses. Lot 3: Intelligent Automation as a Service (IAaaS) This is an outcome-based, managed service solution whereby organisations can fully outsource their intelligent automation requirements to a third-party service provider. This lot is designed to make intelligent automation more accessible to organisations by allowing them to procure on an entirely outcome-based/service consumption-based, fixed price-per-process operating and commercial subscription model. It is designed for organisations who want to completely outsource the day-to-day running of services and solutions.
